.NET Framework Downgrade

Xusix OS previously used the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 for it's integration with Windows, however to keep older systems capable of using the OS, and to increase performance and decrease installation time, we restructured the OS to use .NET Framework 2.0 instead, as it is much more commonly used in older systems, and pre-installed on many newer systems.

Installer Update

A huge update for the Xusix OS Installer is nearing completion, with the capabilty of directly installing the OS on any system without need for any .NET framework (in Windows XP or higher).  With only one click, the entire OS is installed on your computer, configured for optimization with your system, and then started up.  It now takes under a minute (on a fast connection) to be using the most recent release of the OS.  Along with the fast auto-installer, is a new updater that is built right into the OS, allowing the components to be updated right when they are released, without needing to run another program or visit the update website.  It can be configured to download and install the updates without even prompting, making the installation virtually effortless.

Highlight: Media Player

Xusix OS includes a revolutionary media player with support for thousands of formats, and can be fully skinned to match the system interface.  Built on Direct X, it integrates smoothly with any Windows system, and can handle playback of large, high quality files quite well.  The full screen mode is in a very primitive state, currently only showing video playback with no controls, but will continue to be enhanced until a full set of quick-access controls are available in full screen.  A docking mode will also be implemented to allow the player to run from the menu bar allowing easy, fast access to the playback controls.

Highlight: Themes

The newest patch to Xusix OS introduces a feature thought nearly impossible before now for us at Alanaktion and Xusix Tech.  We have brought the ability to run live, dynamic, and complete themes on the entire interface.  Everything from button shadows to exit button location is changeable by custom themes.  We will include the themes displayed in the image, as well as many more in the final release, and maybe release the ability to create your own with an easy to use theme designer.  Other appearance features are also in development, such as dynamic wallpapers, interactive screen savers, and much more.

This video poorly demonstrates what we've got working on Xusix OS so far. We hope for vast improvement in the future, but it's a great start!

The Start of Xusix OS

Today, we began the development of Xusix OS, a hybrid cloud/desktop operating system.  So far, the base interface has been built, as well as the API for beta activation and updating.  We hope to bring every feature possible to this great new operating system.  An interesting new idea behind Xusix OS is logging in with an online (cloud) account on multiple computers, and seeing changes to files and applications reflected live.  Although this will take some work, and may require significant server modifications, we hope to be able to make a flawless, dynamic live cloud system that is actually installed on each client computer.  The interface is built on a powerful core supporting full control theming as well as dynamic window shapes.  Media playback is also enhanced with the use of the new .NET Framework 4.

You can get the most recent beta release at xusixos.alanaktion.net.
